All teachers monitor their respective classes during meal times and notify the parents if a child is having any trouble during meal times. Younger children initially are fed and taught how to feed themselves over time.
Children are given three warnings for any infraction. After the 3rd warning, younger children are put on a time-out whilst older children are denied privileges such as cookery lessons, play time, prefect badges.
We have 25 children per class with a class teacher and an assistant teacher.
Ages 2-4 years sleep in the afternoon for an hour. Ages 4-6 sleep for 30minutes in preparation for primary school.
An assistant teacher accompanies the children from ages 2-4.
Children that are 2years are potty trained by the class teacher and assistant teacher.
Every morning during reading time each class teacher has a reading session with each child individually. During this time the rest of the class works on Montessori projects of their choice.
Children that finish their work before others are allowed to use the Montessori projects as they wait for the other activities to begin.
Children that live closer to the school are picked up later and dropped off earlier. Children that live further away from the school are picked up earlier and dropped off later.
Some of the ways we ensure safety in the school vans include taking our vans for a thorough inspection. Every van is fitted with a speed governor. We also insist that all children must wear their safety belts. Our vans are clearly branded for easy identification and immediate feedback from the public. Our drivers are required to provide a driving license, a certificate of good conduct and evidence of experience. Each van has a staff member on board who ensures the schools culture of discipline is maintained. The staff also ensures that children are dropped off to authorized persons only. The staff member has all contacts of the parents/guardians on that route. The staff member on the van reports to the management any incidences immediately. In case of any mechanical problems, a rescue car is availed within 15minutes and parents are notified of the delay.
Yes we do, currently up to Standard 4. We will grow the primary school by one class per year.
Diamond Academy strives to maintain a high level of hygiene by requiring all students, staff and visitors to change their shoes at the entrance, thus reducing the amount of dirt that is brought into the school. Every teacher is expected to maintain a presentable, clean and attractive environment in their class.
The washrooms are cleaned 3 times a day with disinfectant. Every child owns 2 face towels that they use to dry their hands thus avoiding sharing of towels which has been known to be one of the ways diseases spreads.
For ages 2-4years the use of the washroom and the washing of their hands is supervised by the assistant teacher.
We provide a variety of balanced and healthy meals with a fruit. We insist that children drink a glass of water during break time and lunchtime to keep them hydrated. In addition to lunch, we offer a snack at 10am.
We encourage a close relationship between the class teacher and the child. Children pick up languages very quickly as result they pick up speaking in English from their fellow students who tend to speak to them without any inhibition. For non-English speaking children we request the parents provide us with key words that we would need to know for the comfort of this child such as "I would like to go to the washroom", "I am in pain".
Even though a child cannot speak they can understand words spoken to them. Being in an environment where there is a lot of conversation encourages them to pick up speech much faster
In the case of illnesses, the parents are notified of the child's illness and what the school will do while waiting for the parents to come and take their child for treatment.
We have a medical insurance with emergency plus medical service that provides a 24 hour medical help line and a rescue and outpatient benefits. Their ambulances have advanced life saving equipment and therefore are able to treatment and stabilization on site or take the child to hospital.
